Why Do You Love Art?

That is the theme for my most recent hall display promoting our upcoming art show and Youth Art Month. Students across all grade levels helped make the giant flowers, leaves and lettering. They also provided some insightful answers to the question...why to you love art?

  1. Hi, this blog looks wonderful and very colorful. I was wondering if you had a blog called MCPS artnews. The reason I am wondering is because I found wonderful art projects from that teacher and actually tried to google to see if you (or maybe not you) had started another one. Funny enough I just finished a lesson that was inspired from MCPS. I found the pic on Pinterest (It was the self-portrait project with glue and chalk). Anyway today I googled again and this website popped up. And by the way those large flowers are awesome!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!!

    1. Hi Jen! Thanks for your kind words. Yes! I used to maintain MCPS Art News when I was working at that school and recently started blogging at my current school. Pinterest is a crazy thing! I started seeing things pop up in my own pinterest feed that were from my old blog and I thought.."I'll go check my stats on that old blog". Would you believe that it has gotten 10,000 views since November!!!!? I will find you on Pinterest when I'm at home. It is, unfortunately, blocked here at school. Thanks again! You made my day:)

  2. You are welcome!! I was so excited to find your new blog. I added it to my blog list. I started a blog at the beginning of this schol year.
I posted my students chalk drawings on my blog yesterday and actually linked it to your old blog. You can find me on Pinterest through my blog( I just added a Pinterest button.
I will be checking back often. I love all of your collage ideas and I think I forsee myself doing large flowers on my school wall too. Those flowers are very impressive and the size is great.

  3. I love the flowers...I clicked thru via pinterest. Could you explain a bit more about them?

  4. I love these....I am thinking of incorporating some measurement skills to them.

  5. Great blog...I'm an art teacher in MA...always looking for new wonderful ideas! Thank you so much for sharing! My blog site is Hope you'll visit!

  6. How ADORABLE! You flowers are so clever! I found you on Pinterest! Glad you have joined the blogging world. Thanks for sharing.

  7. This is such a nice design for a display. I posted a link to here from my blog about art bulletin boards.

  8. Thanks for all the kind words about this display! The kids painted large sheets of colored butcher paper (because, I too, love painted paper, Laura) with scrapers, brushes, and sponge stampers. We then cut the petals from those sheets and mounted them to large circle bases. The centers are made from watercolored coffee filters. I assembled it all with hot glue. I hope that helps!

  9. You have a lot of moxie my dear! That's a good thing by the way! As a veteran art teacher (36 years!)I really enjoy seeing what new and fresh ideas the younger art teachers are coming up with. That Youth Art Month hall display is beyond cool and the fact that the kids helped you create it is so great. I am joining your blog and look forward to your future posts.
